Kolkata, September 12 (HS). The meeting between the state government and junior doctors at Navanna failed once again amid huge uproar and dramatic developments on Thursday. The junior doctors had demanded that the meeting be telecast live, which the government refused to accept. Due to this, no discussion could take place in the meeting, which has caused great disappointment among the doctors.
Even after the delegation of junior doctors reached Navanna, no agreement could be reached with the government on their demands. The doctors demanded that the meeting be telecast live so that the general public could also watch it, but the government instead proposed video recording of the meeting, which the doctors rejected.
Representatives of junior doctors held a press conference in front of the secretariat and said, “We have not come here for a chair, but for justice. We came here trusting the good will of the Chief Minister, but we are disappointed by his recent statements. We still hope that a solution will be found through dialogue.”
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier said in a press conference that she apologizes to the people of Bengal for not being able to find a solution in three days. She appealed to the doctors to return to their services. She also said that she forgives the doctors who did not attend the meeting but her government has been insulted.
The junior doctors also said in their statement that they will wait outside Navanna till the Chief Minister is present there and is ready for the meeting.
However, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made serious allegations against the junior doctors and said that the doctors do not want justice but want the chair. I am ready to resign. Mamata said that the people of Bengal should forgive me. I could not resolve the matter even in three days. I want justice for Tilottama.
