New Delhi, 21 February (HS). Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi today inaugurated a renovated public library of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) located at Veer Savarkar Park, Lodhi Road. NDMC President Amit Yadav and Secretary Krishna Mohan were present on this occasion.
On this occasion, Lekhi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the nation with the message of “Padhega Bharat, toh Badhega Bharat”, which is the path to the goal of a developed India by 2047. He has not only emphasized on the habit of reading and learning for every child but it is also the need of the hour for all. This library will also provide study space for students and aspirants of competitive examinations.
On this occasion, Municipal Council Chairman Amit Yadav said that this public library has been renovated with the Regional MP's Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund. He thanked Meenakshi Lekhi for her cooperation. Amit Yadav said that this library is equipped with all types of books for the public in Hindi, English, Punjabi, Urdu and folk tales for children. it has two floors. The library has a total capacity of approximately 75 students.
A total of 08 libraries are operated under NDMC for the general public, out of which 01 public library is under construction at JPN Library, Mandir Marg area, New Delhi. The renovated new library at Veer Savarkar Park, Lodhi Road, New Delhi has recently been opened to the public. Some libraries of NDMC have been modernized and digitized and work of modernization and digitization of 4 libraries is in progress. NDMC public libraries receive 55,000 visitors annually.
A total of 13949 books were issued in public libraries last year. A total of 54228 books of different categories i.e. General Knowledge, Reference, Children's Book, Fiction etc. are available in NDMC public libraries and NDMC is going to purchase some new books for all the public libraries in the next financial year.
