Medical Counseling Committee made a big cut in the cutoff percentile.

Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) has announced to reduce the cutoff percentage for NEET PG 2024. This decision has been taken as per the instructions of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). Under the revised cutoff, more candidates will now be eligible to participate in the counseling process.

Revised Cutoff Percentile

  • General and EWS (Economically Weaker Section):
    • New cutoff: 15 percentage points or more.
  • SC, ST, OBC and PWD Categories:
    • New cutoff: 10 percentage points or more.
  • Unreserved Disabled Candidates:
    • Cutoff: 20th percentile.
  • SC, ST, OBC (including physically handicapped candidates):
    • Cutoff: 20th percentile.

Important decisions and background

This decision was taken after consultation with MoHFW and NMC (Medical Counseling Committee).

  • The revised cutoff will be applicable from the next round of NEET PG 2024 counselling.
  • The cutoff was also reduced in 2022. For the general category, it was reduced from 50th percentile to 35th percentile.

Last year:

  • The qualifying percentile for all categories was reduced to zero.

Round-3 Counselling: Seat Allotment Process

  • Third Round Seat Allotment Result: 6 January 2025
  • Reporting date for seat allotted candidates: 13 January 2025
  • Data Verification: 14-15 January 2025

Candidates, who have secured qualifying rank in NEET PG examination conducted by NBE, will be eligible for 50% of All India Quota (AIQ) seats and seats in central universities.

Why is this change important?

Reduction in cutoff:

  1. More candidates will be able to participate in the counseling process.
  2. Maximum utilization of medical seats can be ensured.
  3. Students of all categories will get equal opportunities.
