Paris, August 9 (HS). American athlete Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone broke her own world record by clocking 50.37 seconds in the 400m hurdles late Thursday night and retained her Olympic title.
Not only did she win the gold medal, but she also broke her own world record for the sixth time! She finished the race in 50.37 seconds, finishing 1.50 seconds ahead of her teammate, silver medalist Anna Cockerell. Dutch woman Femke Bol won the bronze medal.
“Sure, there will be competitors around you who will try hard, but the trick is to keep your eyes on the obstacles and stay focused. My goal was to get through each obstacle efficiently and get the time down,” McLaughlin-Levrone said after the win.
