Mayawati’s big decision, nephew Akash Anand expelled from BSP, serious questions raised on father-in-law Ashok Siddharth’s retirement

These days, there is a huge political earthquake in the politics of Uttar Pradesh and the internal corridors of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which has surprised political analysts from the national capital to Lucknow. Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati has taken a very strict and far-reaching political step and has completely thrown her nephew Akash Anand, who was seen as her political successor, out of the party. The most interesting thing about this high-profile political development is that Mayawati, killing two birds with one stone, first forced Akash Anand’s father-in-law and powerful leader within the party, Ashok Siddharth, to retire from politics and soon after, she took action against Akash Anand and freed him from the primary membership of the party. This sudden and shocking decision has made it completely clear that the BSP supremo is in no mood to make any kind of family or personal compromise in the matter of party discipline, ideological purity and the supreme interests of the organization.

The whole incident started when there was a long period of speculations and infighting within the Bahujan Samaj Party regarding the political comeback of Akash Anand and his active role. Party sources and political experts believed that the increasing political interference and working style of his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth was the biggest obstacle in the way of Akash Anand returning to the mainstream and assuming important responsibilities within the BSP. The message within the party was made clear that as long as Ashok Siddhartha remained in active politics, it would be difficult to take independent decisions at the organizational level. Due to this political pressure, Ashok Siddharth finally formally announced his retirement from active politics. Everyone was hopeful that after the retirement of his father-in-law, the way would be completely cleared for Akash Anand to return to the party and he would return to the mainstream of the party. However, on the contrary, Mayawati surprised everyone with her sharp attitude and accepted Ashok Siddharth’s decision of retirement, but also said that she had taken this right decision too late. Mayawati publicly made a sharp statement that if Ashok Siddhartha had taken this visionary decision a little earlier, then today the Bahujan Samaj Party, its ideological movement and her son-in-law Akash Anand herself would not have to face such complex and difficult situations.

Even after the retirement of Ashok Siddhartha, when Akash Anand did not get the desired reinstatement or relief in the party, murmurs intensified in the political circles. Soon after, Mayawati put a big stop to Akash Anand’s political future by throwing him out of the party. In her strong statements, Mayawati clearly attacked the politics of familyism, personal preferences and self-interest. He bluntly said that the entire politics and ideological structure of the Bahujan Samaj Party is based on the great mission and ideological ideology of the great social transformational great men – Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Honorable Kanshi Ram Saheb. To survive and progress in this party, personal sacrifice, hard struggle, and supreme sacrifices as well as putting aside one’s personal and family interests forever are essential conditions. Mayawati also alleged that Akash Anand was seen giving priority to his family relationships and excessive attachment towards his father-in-law instead of working for the larger and sacred goal of the party and the Bahujan Samaj. He specifically mentioned that during the recent political developments, Akash Anand did not even once repost the statements or posts related to his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), whereas on the contrary, he had earlier been showing his so-called loyalty and activism by reposting the official posts of Mayawati. Based on this dual attitude and ‘double minded’ working style, Mayawati concluded that no person with such mental duality can effectively do justice to a disciplined and missionary movement like BSP.

In her sharp and clear statements, Mayawati also emphasized that it was the Bahujan Samaj Party that had lifted these two leaders from the floor to the heights of glory and that their political existence would not have been possible without the cooperation and support of the party. He said that the amount of gratitude these people owe to the party and the movement today will be very little, and every true worker of the party understands this very well. With this step of Mayawati, this message has been sent to the political arena of entire Uttar Pradesh and the country that now in BSP, priority will be given only to dedication to the constitution, discipline and mission of the party, rising above family loyalty. This major administrative and organizational reshuffle within the BSP, amidst Akhilesh Yadav’s helicopter not getting permission to land or other political movements, has forced even the opposition parties to think. The condition with which the talk of Ashok Siddhartha’s retirement was raised ended in the complete expulsion of Akash Anand, which proved that Mayawati is in no mood to tolerate any kind of factionalism, family pressure or ideological divergence within her party. Only time will tell what deep impact this new strategy of BSP will have on the politics of Dalits and backward classes of Uttar Pradesh, but at present, Akash Anand’s political journey has completely stopped within BSP.
