Jaunpur, 08 August (HS) The central government introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to reform the Waqf Board. How right or wrong is this bill for Muslims? Hindustan Samachar representative talked to senior Shia religious leader Maulana Kalbe Jawad, who had come to attend a Majlis in Jaunpur on Thursday, regarding this matter. During this, Maulana Kalbe Jawad said that this is a good initiative of the government. The Waqf Board does not own even an inch of any land. It is just a caretaker. This is just a misleading news being spread by the media and the government.

Regarding the amendment of the law by the government regarding the Waqf Board lands, religious leader Maulana Kalbe Jawad said that there is a misconception that this land belongs to the army, this land belongs to the railways, the Waqf Board has so much land, it is the property of the government. This is the biggest misconception. The land has been donated by Muslims, not from now but from 150 years ago, the Waqf Board is the caretaker of it. All this is the land of Muslims, who have donated for good works, noble deeds and religious works.

He told that we are the trustees of the board which is of 1845, at that time there was no Waqf Board, Waqf Board was formed by the British in 1935, Waqf Board Act came in 1995. Waqf Board does not have any land, all this is land donated in the name of Allah. It is donated for religious purposes for a good cause. Just like people donate land to a temple. Referring to a temple in Madras, he said that about 15 years ago people used to donate elephants to a temple there and that temple had 500 elephants, so did the elephants become the property of the temple? People have donated them, Waqf Board is a matter of Shariat, like for Nikah, if the government declares that the Nikah will be done by our person, is this possible? This is a law under Sharia, if the government amends it, we will see what amendments the government is making in it, whether it is harming us or not, if there is amendment in the law, then we will support it, if we see that the government's intentions are not clear, then we will also oppose it.

Confusion is also spread among the people regarding Nazul land, whereas this is a law made by the British. It was made before independence, not after that. The matter of Nazul land is before 1857. When Hindus and Muslims together rebelled against the British, at that time a law was made that the land of all the freedom fighters should be confiscated. So at that time the British confiscated the land of those who fought for independence. Today 90% of the same land is with the government which is Nazul. The government does not own the Nazul lands either. It was confiscated by the British. If changes are being made in the law made by the British, then changes should be made in the Nazul lands as well. When the Waqf Board is a symbol of slavery, then Nazul is also a symbol of slavery, why is it not being changed because the government benefits from it. Imambaras are also religious things, they are not government property.
