A huge administrative upheaval has been witnessed on the front of politics and public welfare schemes in West Bengal. Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari, while addressing a huge public meeting held at Rezinagar in Murshidabad district on Friday, has announced a historic health protection cover for the poor and middle class families of the state. Under this new game changer plan of the Chief Minister, the state government will provide full cashless health insurance cover of up to ₹ 5 lakh per year under its special ‘Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana’ to those citizens of the state who will not be able to meet the eligibility criteria of the Central Government’s ambitious ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana’. This big step of the Chief Minister is being considered as a strategic masterstroke in the democratization of health services in the state and on the election front.
Six and a half crore people benefited from Ayushman: A new state security cover will be created for the left out people.
Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari, while addressing the crowd present in the public meeting, clarified that at present the process of registration and application for Ayushman Bharat Scheme is going on war footing in the entire West Bengal. According to preliminary estimates of the state government, about 6.5 crore citizens of Bengal will be directly covered under this central scheme and provided free treatment facilities. While assuring the people of Murshidabad, Shubhendu Adhikari said that those families whose names will not be able to appear in the list of the Center due to technical reasons or eligibility rules, there is no need to worry in any way. The state government will ensure insurance of ₹ 5 lakh to all those left out families through the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme from its own funds so that no person is deprived of better treatment due to lack of funds.
Historic facility of portability: Now the state’s health card will be valid outside Bengal also
The most unique and important feature of this new health policy is its geographical portability. The Chief Minister made a big announcement from the stage that the State Health Ministry is preparing a special Inter-State Framework for this scheme. Under this, if any citizen of West Bengal goes to other states of the country for employment, travel or any other reason and suddenly falls ill there, then he will be able to get free treatment up to ₹ 5 lakh through this Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme in the listed hospitals there. This portability facility will provide great relief especially to lakhs of migrant workers who reside in Delhi, Mumbai or the states of South India for work.
Rejinagar by-election trumpet: Development on the lines of ‘Falta Model’ and the main goal of 209 MLAs
Along with the health announcements, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari also sounded the bugle for the upcoming by-elections from the Muslim-dominated Rejinagar assembly constituency. He set a big organizational target of taking the number of BJP MLAs in the West Bengal Assembly to the magical figure of 209. Referring to the historic victory of Nandigram, the Chief Minister said that the result of Rejinagar is going to prove decisive for the future politics of the state. He appealed to the local people that just as the people of ‘Phalta Assembly Constituency’ of South 24 Parganas district had given a historic victory to the BJP by trusting the development package, on the same lines the people of Rejinagar should also support the BJP for the national interest and regional development.
Return of migrant workers and promise of employment: Two new big bridges will be built in the area
To remove the economic backwardness of Murshidabad, the Chief Minister made many big developmental promises to the people of Rejinagar. He announced that if BJP wins in the area, two new state-of-the-art bridges will be constructed to ease traffic and trade. Along with this, 100 percent permanent houses will be provided under ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’ (PMAY) to all the eligible and needy families of the area. Speaking on the serious problem of migration, Subhendu Adhikari said that the top priority of his government is to bring back local migrant workers working in other states and provide them new employment opportunities through skill development in their home district, so that they do not have to go away from their families.
