Lok Sabha Elections 2024: There are many hot seats which are in discussion amid the Lok Sabha elections. One of these is Nagpur Lok Sabha seat. Veteran BJP leader Nitin Gadkari is contesting elections from here. This seat has been a stronghold of Congress but BJP has won here in the last two elections. This time Congress has hope again here. In the 2019 elections, BJP's vote share increased to 10 percent. People in Nagpur are talking about local issues like unemployment and civic amenities and considering the caste equation, Congress believes it has a big chance this time.
What is BJP's claim?
Nitin Gadkari is considered to be one of the best performing Union Ministers in the Modi government. They are seeking votes on the basis of the development work done by the Modi government in the last two terms and its track record. At a rally in Nagpur, Gadkari says confidently, victory is certain, but we should strive for 75% vote share for BJP in Nagpur. His supporters say that this time his supporters will make him win by more than five lakh votes. Nagpur is one of the five constituencies in Maharashtra that will go to polls in the first phase on April 19.
What was the situation in 2014 and 2019?
In 2014, Nitin Gadkari won by 2.16 lakh votes and after five years both his vote share and vote margin increased. Congress's vote share also increased in 2019. Nitin Gadkari is addressing rallies in every corner of the city. Reiterating the words of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, “Gadkari will get 65% votes. We are confident that our victory margin will increase.
Why is Congress's morale high?
Forgetting the infighting, Congress now believes that it has a strong local candidate in the form of Nagpur Congress President Vikas Thackeray. Party insiders believe that in 2019 when current state Congress chief Nana Patole was being seen as an outsider, Vikas Thackeray is a better option than him. Congress insiders say Vikas Thackeray is a popular figure because of his tenure as former mayor of Nagpur and is also seen as a brilliant leader. Presently he is the MLA from Nagpur West Assembly Constituency. Fadnavis has represented this assembly seat twice.
These issues can affect
Congress candidate Vikas Thackeray wants to take advantage of the anti-incumbency wave against the BJP running the municipal body. He said, “People of Nagpur are worried about jobs, inflation and facilities like water and electricity. The municipal body is with BJP but they still cannot provide water and the roads are also in a pathetic condition. Putting cement and concrete everywhere does not lead to development. Youth in the state need jobs and people need water and electricity at affordable rates on time. BJP has failed to deliver all this.
Congress is seeing hope from this…
This time Congress is expected to get the support of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, BSP and AIMIM. All three parties have not fielded any candidate in Nagpur. In 2019, VBA and BSP got about 5% votes. Keeping this in mind, Vikas Thackeray is campaigning vigorously in the Dalit and Muslim areas of the city and is also hoping for the support of his Kunbi (OBC) community. According to a Congress insider, the Kunbi community in Vidarbha is angry with the BJP over the Maratha reservation issue and this development could go in Thackeray's favour.
