Fire in China Shopping Mall: A major accident happened in China on Wednesday (17 July). 16 people died in a massive fire in a shopping mall in the southwestern Chinese city of Zigong. According to Chinese government media, a fire broke out in a 14-storey building in Zigong city of Sichuan province. Due to this, many people got trapped inside the building. A video of the incident has also surfaced, in which black smoke can be clearly seen coming out of the building.
According to official media CCTV, 300 emergency personnel and dozens of fire engines were sent to the spot as soon as the fire was reported. Emergency personnel carried out rescue operations and saved about 30 people from the fire. Local officials have been quoted as saying that initial investigation has revealed that the cause of the fire was construction work, which caused a spark and then the fire broke out. However, an official statement is yet to come out.
