Mary Kom: I have achieved everything in life, I cannot shoulder this responsibility

The Indian team has suffered a big setback before the Paris Olympics 2024. Six-time world champion boxer MC Mary Kom has resigned from the post of Chef de Mission of India for these Olympics. Mary Kom has resigned due to personal reasons. Mary Kom said that now she has no option. The Chef de Mission is the most important administrative member of a country's team at any Olympics. It is his responsibility to arrange all the facilities related to the players. He represents the players in case of any kind of dispute. Mary Kom wrote a letter to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha asking him to relieve her of this responsibility. In a letter to PT Usha, Mary Kom said, 'It is a matter of pride to serve the country in any form. I was mentally prepared for this. But I regret that I will not be able to fulfill this responsibility. I am moving on for personal reasons.

Mary Kom was appointed last month

Mary Kom, 41, said, 'I feel ashamed of being left behind like this because I don't do this, but I have no option. I will always be there to encourage our athletes participating in the Olympic Games. The IOA announced his appointment on 21 March. London Olympics 2012 bronze medalist Mary Kom will be the campaign leader of the Indian contingent in the Olympic Games to be held from July 26 to August 11.

PT Usha expressed grief over Mary Kom's decision

PT Usha said in a statement, 'We are saddened to learn that Mary Kom, Olympic medalist boxer and head of the IOA Athletes Commission, has stepped down due to personal reasons. We respect their decision and privacy. Its alternative will be announced soon. I have told him that IOA and my support is always with him. I urge everyone to respect their privacy.

Mary Kom made many records

Mary Kom is the first female boxer in the history of boxing to become world champion six times. He won a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympics. She has been Asian champion five times. She was the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games. She is the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. After winning the 2012 Olympic medal, Mary Kom gave birth to her third child, after which she once again went on a break. She then bounced back, however, with a 5-0 win over Ukraine's Hanna Okhota at the 2018 World Championships in Delhi. A year later she won her eighth World Cup medal, the most by any male or female boxer.

Mary Kom said in an event, 'I have achieved everything in my life. I still have the hunger to compete, but International Boxing Federation rules don't allow me to do so. Male and female boxers are allowed to box only till the age of 40, so I can't participate in any major tournaments now.
