Kochi: The Kerala Women's Commission has put forward a proposal to resolve marital disputes and promote strong family ties. The proposal states that pre-marital counselling should be made compulsory for couples at the local body level before officially registering a marriage. The commission made this recommendation so that the root causes of marital problems highlighted in the complaints received could be addressed. Commission Chairperson P. Sathidevi held a district-level meeting in Kozhikode and stressed the urgent need for such interventions. According to her, many complaints point to a lack of understanding about family and marital dynamics between the husband and wife.
This decision was taken because of this
The Chairperson of the Women's Commission said that the Commission found that many couples get married without knowing each other. Many hide their shortcomings. When these shortcomings are revealed after marriage or their desires are revealed, it leads to disputes in the family.
Counseling will be done at local level
P Satidevi said that after starting pre-marital counselling services at the local body level, it will help in resolving the growing marital differences between couples. This will help married couples to travel the long journey of life together.
This data has been obtained from the analysis of complaints received by the Commission.
Addressing the media after the district level court in Kozhikode, Ms. Sathidevi said the Commission had conducted an analysis. Most of the complaints received were related to problems in the relationship between husband and wife. “Since pre-marital counselling can solve these issues to a large extent, we have recommended the State government to implement it,” she said.
You will not be bothered by sudden problems after marriage
Ms. Satidevi also said that many couples get married without proper knowledge or awareness about the importance of marital relations and family life. Making premarital counselling certificate a mandatory document for marriage registration will ensure counselling of the couple before marriage. During this time they will be able to know each other.
