MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Monday said in an order that the recruitment process for public posts should be transparent and the marks obtained by a candidate are not private information and disclosure of this information cannot be considered an unreasonable invasion of privacy.

The court said that hiding such information creates suspicion which is not conducive to maintaining transparency. The order was passed on the application of Omkar Kalmankar, who wanted to know the marks obtained by the candidates of the examination held in 2018 for the post of Junior Clerk in Pune District Court. The court directed the concerned authority to provide the information. The applicant appeared for the examination but was not selected.

The court said that the provisions of the Right to Information Act do not cover personal information which is not related to any public activity or interest.

Kalmankar asked for information under RTI but he refused to give the information and filed an application in the High Court.
