Indian stock markets have closed flat after seeing sharp fluctuations throughout the day. However, in the last two sessions, midcap and smallcap stocks have seen a rise due to fears of a fall. Buying was also seen in energy and auto shares in today's session. However, the BSE Sensex fell 46 points to close at 73,466, while the National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed flat.

Whereas the smallcap index closed with a gain of 94 points.
