Mumbai: Sensex, Nifty hit new highs today after Indian stock markets attracted massive foreign fund inflows following the US Federal Reserve's cut in interest rates by half a percentage point last week and improvement in global markets. The bullish momentum continued today as funds piled up frontline-index-based heavyweight stocks Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto, ONGC, State Bank of India, Hero MotoCorp, Bharti Airtel, BPCL, Hindustan Unilever, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, UltraTech Cement, among others. Spot made a new peak of 25956 near 26000 and finally closed at a new record high of 25939.05, up 148.10 points. Sensex also made a new record high of 84980.53 near 85000 and finally closed at a new historical high of 84928.61, up 384.30 points.
Auto index jumped 868 points: Bajaj Auto rose by Rs 400: Mahindra rose by Rs 97
The BSE Auto index jumped 868.14 points to close at 60,517.69 today as funds made aggressive purchases of automobile companies in anticipation of a surge in vehicle purchases in the country due to the continuing monsoon and the onset of the festive season. Bajaj Auto price rose by Rs 400.45 to Rs 12,343.40, Mahindra & Mahindra price rose by Rs 97.15 to Rs 3049.40, Hero MotoCorp price rose by Rs 176.60 to Rs 6190.40, Bosch share rose by Rs 95 to Rs 36,558.50, Balkrishna Industries rose by Rs 44.15 to Rs 3123.25, Madrasan Sumi rose by Rs 4.45 to Rs 207.25, Cummins India rose by Rs 47 to Rs 3866.60, TVS Motor rose by Rs 32.30 to Rs 2850, MRF rose by Rs 1103.40 to Rs 1,37,142.10, Maruti Suzuki rose by Rs 65.50 to Rs 12,682.20.
Consumer index rises to 946: VIP rises by Rs 58 to Rs 557: Aditya Birla, Blue Star rise
Funds also made selective aggressive buying in shares of consumer durables companies today. VIP Industries rose by Rs 58.35 to Rs 556.80, Aditya Birla Fashion rose by Rs 16.30 to Rs 344.50, Blue Star rose by Rs 79.25 to Rs 2011.55, Dixon Technology rose by Rs 221 to Rs 14,215.15. Havells India rose by Rs 34.30 to Rs 2081.30. BSE Consumer Durables index closed at 68788.20, up 945.86 points.
Adani Gas surges Rs 47 to Rs 836 after getting $375 million funding: GAIL, Oil India gain
Funds are buying oil-gas stocks heavily today. Shares rose Rs 47.50 to Rs 836.10, GAIL India shares rose Rs 8 to Rs 220.35, Oil India shares rose Rs 19.50 to Rs 295.35 after Adani Total Gas secured US$375 million in funding from global lenders for business expansion, ONGC shares rose Rs 9.05 to Rs 295.35, Petronet LNG rose Rs 7.25 to Rs 332.20, BPCL rose Rs 6.70 to Rs 338.20, Indraprastha Gas rose Rs 8.10 to Rs 547, Reliance Industries rose Rs 15.30 to Rs 2988.40. The BSE Oil-Gas index closed 671.06 points higher at 30801.85.

Funds again made aggressive buying in realty company stocks today. Godrej Properties rose by Rs 204.80 to Rs 3193.50, DLF rose by Rs 31.50 to Rs 909.65, Oberoi Realty rose by Rs 45.10 to Rs 1903, Macrotech Developers rose by Rs 29.50 to Rs 1423.50. Shobha Developers rose by Rs 39.15 to Rs 2032.35.

FPIs/FIIs net buy Rs.404cr: DIIs net buy Rs.1023cr
Foreign Portfolio Investors – FPIs, FIIs made net purchases of shares worth Rs 404.42 crore in cash today. Selling of Rs 11,609.47 crore was done against total purchases of Rs 12,094.89 crore. While DIIs-Domestic Institutional Investors made net purchases of Rs 1022.64 crore in cash today. Selling of Rs 10,643.72 crore was done against total purchases of Rs 11,666.36 crore.
Small, midcap stocks surge, many stocks sell off: 2382 stocks closed positive, 1731 stocks closed negative.
Today, the market breadth remained overall positive with selective interest in small, mid-cap stocks. But the number of active stocks increased as many stocks were selling on the rise. Out of the total 4233 stocks traded on BSE today, the number of gainers was 2382 and the number of losers was 1731.
Investor asset-market cap rose by Rs 4.32 lakh crore to a new high of Rs 476.03 lakh crore
Along with Sensex, Nifty also witnessed an unstoppable record rise today. The wealth of investors in small, midcap and select group of stocks, i.e. the total market capitalization of the companies listed on BSE also increased by Rs 4.32 lakh crore to a new historical high. It reached a high of Rs 476.03 lakh crore in a day.
