Mumbai, 04 November (HS). Maratha leader Manoj Jarange Patil has announced on Monday that he will not contest the Maharashtra Assembly elections. He said in Jalna that the candidates of Maratha community should withdraw their nomination today. He said that the people of Maratha society should decide with their discretion, who to win and who to defeat.
Manoj Jarange while talking to journalists in Jalna on Monday said that we were discussing till 3.30 in the morning today. We, along with our allies, were going to field Dalit and Muslim candidates in this election because it is not possible to contest and win elections on the basis of one caste. We are new. In politics, if we field a candidate and he loses, it will be a matter of shame for the caste. Therefore, I request all Maratha candidates to withdraw their candidature.
He said that elections cannot be won on the basis of one caste, hence it was decided that we should not contest elections. Manipulating the political process is no easy task.
Jarange's statement has been welcomed by NCP AP leader Chhagan Bhujbal. Chhagan Bhujbal said that Manoj Jarange is working for the Maratha community but while contesting elections he has to gain the trust of people of all communities.
Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje said that he has no information as to why Manoj Jarange decided to withdraw from the election. On Tuesday, he himself will meet Manoj Jarange and try to know the reasons for withdrawing from the elections.
