Maradona's heirs want to stop the auction of the Golden Ball trophy, will file a lawsuit

Paris: The heirs of football legend Diego Maradona will file a lawsuit to stop the auction of the trophy that was awarded to him after Argentina won the 1986 World Cup title. His lawyer gave this information on Tuesday. The Golden Ball trophy is awarded to the best player of the tournament. This trophy was missing for several decades and has recently resurfaced. The Agutas auction house said last week that it would be auctioned in Paris next month. Maradona died in 2020 at the age of 60. He was given this trophy for his excellent performance in the 1986 World Cup. He led Argentina to a 3–2 victory over West Germany in the final in Mexico City. Earlier, he had scored the controversial 'Hand of God' goal and 'Goal of the Century' in the 2–1 win against England in the quarter-finals. Maradona's heirs say the trophy has been stolen and claim the current owner may not be entitled to sell it. Gilles Moreau, a lawyer at the Paradox Lawyers firm, said he would soon request the president of the Nanterre judicial court near Paris to remove the golden ball from the auction.

Aston Villa managed to hold Liverpool to a draw

BIRMINGHAM (AP): Substitute John Duran scored twice in the last five minutes as Aston Villa held Liverpool to a 3-3 draw here on Monday and moved closer to a Champions League spot. Had Aston Villa won, it would have assured them of qualifying for the European Cup for the first time since 1983 by finishing in the top four of the English Premier League. Aston Villa fell behind in the second minute when goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez scored an own goal. Youri Tielemans soon made the score 1-1. However, Liverpool took a 3–1 lead with goals from Cody Gakpo and Jerrel Quanshaw. The Liverpool team was heading towards victory but Duran, who came in the 79th minute, secured a point for Aston Villa by scoring goals in the 85th and 88th minutes.
