Many Diwalis came and went but… why did the British leader attack his own government in the name of India?

UK Labour Party on FTA with India: The free trade agreement between Britain and India has been in talks for a long time but it has not been sealed yet. Now the leader of Britain's opposition party has targeted the ruling party in this matter. David Lammy, leader of Britain's opposition Labor Party, targeted Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's ruling Conservative Party and said that many Diwalis have come and gone but the government has failed to sign a free trade agreement with India.

Many Diwalis came and went but…

Speaking at the India Global Forum (IGF), Labour Party's Shadow Foreign Secretary Lammy targeted former Conservative Party Prime Minister Boris Johnson along with Rishi Sunak. He said that many Diwalis have come and gone but no trade agreement could be reached, due to which many sectors are waiting for trade.

Boris Johnson has set the deadline of Diwali 2022 for a free trade agreement with India and in this regard Lammy has targeted the Conservative Party.

Tagore's poetry, no longer Kipling's.

In his address during the forum, the Labour Party leader said that India is a superpower in economic, technological and cultural fields and this is the priority of his party.

Labour Party leader Lammy said that because of the Labour Party, Boris Johnson's days of reading Rudyard Kipling's old poems in Asia are over. If I read any poem in India, it will be Tagore's poem. Because the scope of cooperation and learning with a superpower like India is unlimited.

David Lammy named Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and said that if our party wins the general elections on July 4, the party is ready for a trade agreement with India.

Lamy said, “We want our free trade agreement to happen and we want to move forward.” Along with this, he said, I will visit Delhi by the end of July.

The ruling party does not fulfill its promises

Regarding relations with India, David Lammy said that Britain's ruling party is not making any effort to fulfill its promises to enhance relations.

Negotiations on a free trade agreement began in January 2022 with the aim of increasing annual trade between India and the UK to 38.1 billion pounds. So far, 13 rounds of negotiations have taken place between the two countries. The 14th round of negotiations for the trade agreement began on January 10.
