Colombo: Unusual rainfall in Sri Lanka has caused massive flooding in every river including its northernmost river, the Mahawela-Ganga, leading to closure of schools in all cities including the capital Colombo and its suburbs. According to the Sri Lanka Meteorological Department, Western Sabaragamuwa, North Western and Upper Provinces such as Galle and Manara districts received rainfall of more than 100 mm.
