Manmohan Singh passes away: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. This information has been given by AIIMS Delhi. Manmohan Singh was a prominent leader of Indian politics and a senior member of the Congress Party. He was admitted to AIIMS Delhi in a critical condition after his health deteriorated on Thursday evening. Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha earlier this year, ending his tenure of 33 years. Priyanka Gandhi and other party leaders had also reached AIIMS Delhi earlier in the evening.

AIIMS, New Delhi gave information about his death.

AIIMS, New Delhi, said in a statement, “It is with great sadness that we announce the demise of Dr Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, at the age of 92. He was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments. He suddenly fainted at home on 26 December 2024. Measures to revive him were immediately started at home. He was brought to the medical emergency at AIIMS, New Delhi at 8:06 pm. Despite all efforts, he could not be saved and was declared dead at 9:51 pm.”

Many leaders including Prime Minister Modi reacted

Many senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi have reacted to the demise of Dr. Manmohan Singh. He said, “India is mourning the demise of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji. Rising from an ordinary background, he became a renowned economist. He held various government positions including that of Finance Minister and left a deep mark on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also very practical. As our Prime Minister he made extensive efforts to improve the lives of the people.”

What did Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge say?

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Undoubtedly, history will judge you politely, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji! With the demise of the former Prime Minister, India has lost a visionary politician, a leader with impeccable integrity and an outstanding economist. “His policy of economic liberalization and rights-based welfare paradigm profoundly transformed the lives of millions of Indians, virtually creating a middle class in India and lifting millions out of poverty.”

I have lost a guide: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “Manmohan Singh ji led India with great intelligence and honesty. His humility and deep understanding of economics inspired the entire nation. My heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Kaur and her family. I have lost a mentor and guide. Millions of us who were his fans will remember him with immense pride.”

Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted

Furthermore, Home Minister Amit Shah said, “The news of the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is extremely sad. From Governor of the Reserve Bank of India to Finance Minister and Prime Minister of the country, Dr. Manmohan Singh played an important role in the governance of the country. In this hour of grief, I express my condolences to his family and supporters. May Waheguru ji grant peace to his soul and give strength to his family members to bear this loss.”

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Has written, “Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is no more. He served as the Governor of RBI and Finance Minister of India. Presented the milestone budget of 1991 which liberalized the Indian economy. Respected by all, he was soft-spoken and gentle. Condolences to his family and friends.”

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal Said, “Deeply saddened by the demise of former Prime Minister and eminent economist Dr. Manmohan Singh ji. His contribution to India’s economic reforms paved a new path of development for the nation. A political stalwart, his intelligence, humility and dedication to public service earned him respect and admiration across the political spectrum. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and well-wishers in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!”

Anand Mahindra, owner of Mahindra & Mahindra Said, “Goodbye Dr. Manmohan Singh. You loved this country. And for this your service will be remembered for a long time. Om Shanti.”

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani Said, “Dr. Deeply saddened by the demise of Manmohan Singh. History will always remember his important role in the revolutionary reforms of 1991, which reshaped India and opened its doors to the world. “A rare leader who spoke softly but achieved great things through his actions, Dr Singh’s life is a perfect example of leadership, humility and service to the nation and will inspire generations to come.”

Chairperson of Biocon Group Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw writes, “Manmohan Singh, two-time prime minister and architect of India’s economic reforms, has died aged 92 – a learned economist and a man of high integrity. A Prime Minister because of whom we were able to improve our economic condition. Om Shanti.”

Dr. Manmohan Singh was the former Prime Minister of India, and is also known as a distinguished economist. He has made important contributions to the politics and economy of India. He started his political career as the Finance Minister of India in 1991 and under his leadership India took historic steps towards economic reforms.

After the economic crisis of 1991, Manmohan Singh initiated policies of economic liberalization, which made the Indian economy globally competitive. He took steps towards privatization, reform of import-export policy, and disinvestment. He was the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. During his tenure, India made many economic, social, and political reforms.
