Manipur once again caught fire due to a selfie

The fire of violence has once again flared up in Manipur. At least two people were killed and more than two dozen were injured in clashes with security forces. More than 400 protesters surrounded the SP office in Churachandpur district. After this attack the police had to take action. Internet service has been stopped in Churachandpur district due to the riots.

This incident of violence is related to a selfie. On 14 February, a selfie video of the head constable was released. In which he was seen with armed people. Those people were vicious extremists. After this, the SP took action and relieved the head constable. The result was that late on the night of 15 February, a mob of more than 400 people surrounded the SP office, pelted stones and set many vehicles on fire. The Rapid Action Force released tear gas shells and opened fire to crush the protesters. At least two people are reported dead. It is being told that both the deceased were involved in the attack on the SP office.

Tribal Leader Forum accused the police

The Kukis allege that the police have attacked their village. Kuki civil society group Tribal Leaders Forum also said that the police were responsible for the incident. He called for a bandh in Churachandpur and warned Superintendent of Police Shivanand Surve to leave the hill district within 24 hours. The police have denied the allegations against them. Police say that videos are being circulated on social media, in which police can be seen attacking village guards.

Internet shut down in Churachandpur district

The Manipur government has suspended internet services in Churachandpur district for five days to prevent fresh riots. The notice issued states that some anti-social elements share inflammatory pictures and posts on social media to instigate people. This affects law and order in the state. Peace in the state is being threatened by false news and rumours.
