New Delhi, August 31 (HS). Manchester United have signed Uruguayan Manuel Ugarte on a five-year contract from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on the last date of the summer transfer window.

The Uruguay international has signed a contract until June 2029, with an option to extend for a further year.

Last season, 23-year-old Ugarte played every match for PSG at the Copa America. He won both the league and the cup with PSG, as well as being named in the team of the tournament. Ugarte said on moving to Manchester United, “It is an incredible feeling to join such a big club; one that is admired around the world. The project the football leadership discussed with me is extremely exciting; Manchester United is an ambitious club and I am an ambitious player. The passion of the supporters is very important to me; I know how incredible United fans are and I can’t wait to experience Old Trafford. I am someone who is very determined to succeed; I will give my all for my teammates. Together we will fight to win trophies and reach the level where this club should be.”

Manchester United sporting director, Dan Ashworth, said, “Signing Manuel was one of our primary targets for this summer. He is one of the best ball-winning midfield players in the world and has an outstanding record at club and international level. His qualities, experience and passion will be a great complement to our strong group of midfielders. Manuel is a player we have watched closely, and we are excited to see his positive impact on the field and in the dressing room as we continue to strive for success.”
