Mamata government presented anti-rape bill in the assembly, BJP also supported it | News India

Aparajita Women and Children Bill 2024: Hurt by the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, the West Bengal government has drafted an amendment to the law to give death penalty to the rapists. This draft has been presented during the special session of the Bengal Legislative Assembly today. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called a special session in the Assembly and introduced the Disadvantaged Women and Child Bill. After this, discussion on this bill started in the meeting. CM Mamata has described this bill as historic. Along with this, she said, “CBI will provide justice.” According to this bill, if the victim dies due to the acts of a convicted rapist, then in such a case the culprit will be given death penalty.

Opposition party BJP has also supported this bill of Mamata government. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said that BJP fully supports the anti-rape bill. We want this law to be implemented soon. It is the responsibility of the state government.

CM Mamata Banerjee called the bill historic

CM Mamata Banerjee said, I welcome the Aparajita Bill on behalf of the whole of West Bengal. Describing the bill as historic, she said that on 3 September 1981, the United Nations took action against atrocities against women and launched the Convention on Discrimination against Women. The CM said that on this historic date, I welcome everyone to accept this bill. I express my condolences to the victim who suffered such a serious crime and died.

Regarding the Kolkata rape-murder case, the CM said, we demand strict action against the culprits of the crime. This is a serious crime. Along with this, he said that a society in which women are not respected can never be a society.

CBI will provide justice to the victim

CM Mamata Banerjee said that on August 9, when I was in Jhargram, a junior doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. I was in Jhargram as long as the case was in the hands of Kolkata Police. As soon as I came to know about the incident, I met the victim's family. The CM also said, I wanted time till Sunday before handing over the case to the CBI. My police was active. We want the CBI to investigate the case and get justice for the victim.
