Chennai, May 27 (HS). West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah have congratulated the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team on winning their third Indian Premier League title.
KKR, led by Shreyas Iyer, won their third title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the final of the tournament at Chepauk.
Mamata Banerjee wrote on Instagram, “The victory of Kolkata Knight Riders has created an atmosphere of celebration across Bengal. I would like to personally congratulate the players, support staff and the franchise for their record-breaking performance in this season of IPL. Best wishes for more such impressive performances in the years to come.”
BCCI secretary Jay Shah congratulated KKR and the franchise's captain Shreyas Iyer for their victorious season. He also thanked the fans for coming in large numbers and making the 17th edition a success.
“Congratulations to KKR for winning the 2024 Tata IPL! The team showed great consistency throughout the tournament and congratulations to Shreyas Iyer for leading the team brilliantly. Once again, thanks to the fans for coming in large numbers and making it a successful season,” Jay Shah wrote on Twitter.
KKR won the IPL 2024 title with a brilliant all-round performance against Hyderabad in the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday night.
The celebration of their third title began at the same ground Chepauk where they won their first title in 2012 under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir.
In the match, KKR bowlers stunned Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen by restricting them to a score of just 113 runs and then the batsmen achieved the target in just 10.3 overs with eight wickets remaining.
