On Sunday morning, the body of 74-year-old Ashish Banerjee was found hanging inside the TMC office adjacent to his ancestral house at Hattalapada in Rampurhat in Birbhum district. As soon as the information was received, the local police reached the spot and took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem. Along with this, the party office has been sealed and police force has been deployed there. Birbhum Superintendent of Police Vidit Raj Bhundesh said that the police have registered a case of unnatural death and have sent the hand-written note (suicide note) recovered from the spot for forensic examination.
According to the information revealed, in that alleged suicide note, Ashish Banerjee has defended his long political career and has completely rejected all the allegations of corruption against him. It is written in the note that he has been active in politics since his student days and he has never participated in any corruption in his entire life and has never taken money in return for any work.
