A strange case has come to light from Vaishali district of Bihar, which has raised questions on the system of the education department. A male teacher working in Hasanpur Osti Higher Secondary School of the district was granted maternity leave due to a technical glitch. After this incident, discussions are hot in the area.
Case initiated: 6 months leave approved
BPSC-appointed teacher Jitendra Kumar had applied to the District Education Officer (DEO) on October 30, seeking approval for 6 months unpaid leave. He took this leave citing his wife’s health related treatment.
But, due to a technical glitch on the e-Shiksha Kosh portal of the Education Department, her leave was approved under maternity benefit. This irregularity came into effect from November 1 and the teacher was given 6 months leave while pretending to be pregnant.
Took leave citing wife’s health
Nidhi Kumari, wife of teacher Jitendra Kumar, who is a teacher at Lodipur Higher Secondary School, was not in good health. For this reason he had taken unpaid leave to take care of his wife. However, due to a departmental technical problem, this leave was approved as maternity leave, due to which the matter became a topic of discussion when it became public.
Statement of Block Education Officer
Block Education Officer (BEO) Archana Kumari clarified regarding this matter that it is a complete technical glitch. He said:
“Due to a technical fault on the education department portal, leave under maternity benefit was sanctioned to a male teacher. This is neither a human error nor a deliberate decision. This information has been given to the District Education Project, and it will be rectified soon.”
Confusion created by technical glitch
The leave of the male teacher was registered in the wrong category on the e-Shiksha Kosh portal of the Education Department. Accepting general leave without pay as “maternity benefit” highlights the shortcomings of the portal.
What does the rule say?
According to the rules of the Education Department, maternity leave is available only to women teachers. No such benefits are given to male employees.
the problem will be solved soon
The District Education Project has been informed about this matter. Departmental officials have assured that the technical problem will be resolved soon and the category of leave will be corrected.
