Now after this help from India, Maldives has thanked India. Regarding this unconditional help from India during Ani, Maldives Foreign Minister Musa Zameer said that this announcement of the Indian government reflects the close friendly relations between Maldives and India.
After becoming president last year, Mohammad Muizzu moved closer to China. He won the election by raising slogans against India. After this, India's relations with Maldives soured. However, Muizzu was invited to attend Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony in June, which he accepted. Since then relations have improved. A few days ago, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar visited Maldives.
Following this, the Maldives Foreign Minister said that Maldives has received budgetary support after India passed the US$50 million fiscal bill.
India has subscribed to Maldives' 50 million treasury bond with a 1-year time frame on 19 September. Hence, Maldives has received a lot of financial help.
During his visit to the Maldives in early August, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar inaugurated six high-profile projects at once before signing agreements for infrastructure development.
During his meeting with Moizzu, Jaishankar also handed over the congratulatory message sent by the Prime Minister to Moizzu.
