Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu said that there is no need for external parties to monitor Maldivian territories. Deploying drones for the first time for the security of Maldives, an island nation located in the Indian Ocean, President Muizzu announced measures to strengthen the defense forces. Speaking at the launch of the Maldives National Defense Force Air Corps and unmanned drones, President Muizzu announced ongoing initiatives to expand the Maldives' military capability, according to a press release issued by the President's Office.
The statement came days after the first contingent of the Indian Navy returned to India and operated helicopters gifted by India, as the pro-China President stepped up his anti-India rhetoric. Muizzu said that Maldives is not a small country. A country is able to police its own jurisdiction. Without naming any country, he said that Maldives is an independent and sovereign nation. No outside party has to worry about keeping an eye on Maldives territory. This will not hinder Maldives' close relations with all countries. Muizzu came to power last year with an anti-India stance. As soon as he came to power, he demanded India to withdraw its military personnel from Maldives.
