Making of an artwork: A seated image that preserves signs of man's first habitation – News India Live | News India

The specialty of this image is that the present place seen in it has preserved many signs of the first human settlement in its soil. In this image, the decorated building is the center of attention in the present time, showing an ancient form. The second place is the ancient well in front of it, the small bricks visible in its masonry tell that it is centuries old. Let's find out! Looking at the scene of this painting (Scenes from Painting) made of solid bricks, the settlement of the early period of human life and its live history till today has been told. It has preserved the history from the Harappa period to the Shunga, Maurya and Kushan dynasties till today.

*The presence of clouds in the blue sky in this painting makes this artwork effective as well as ensures the abundance of grass growing below. This combination in landscape painting is pleasing to the eyes of the viewer as well as soothing to the mind. Such is the nature of these colours. Only three colours are prominent in the image. Most of the space is covered with blue and green. Know how much subtlety has been created in this artwork, it was not even in my mind when I painted it. The clouds flying in the sky are the source of water for the existence of grass on the land, this unshakable truth is also visible in direct form.

Further, this is also an unshakable truth and also the law of nature…. Both these clouds and greenery are not permanent. In the painting, the clouds in the blue sky will remain on the canvas until it is destroyed, but the reality is that they are never permanent. They fly in the sky changing colors every moment, one does not know when lightning will flash with thunder, water will fill in a moment, a gust of wind came… just oh, oh, oh, oh. The same is the condition of greenery, the grasshoppers that come on the grass and trees in the rainy season take shelter only after facing the rain.

Come here, talking about these clouds and grass, let's put them to the test on a bench. It is an unshakable truth that what has no roots has no existence. Grass dies after suffering the heat of summer and grows again, but the clouds rain and then where are they. Even today, wise people continue to follow the flow of money and give people hope to always stay connected to their roots.

In this natural scene, the existence of the sky and the earth cannot be called eternal, but time is certainly permanent. The discovery of fire and the wheel changed the life of man and made it practical. If man had not learned the process of making and baking bricks centuries ago, then these ruins of ancient civilization would not have been able to tell the story of the work done by him. Let us start with the well. This well, dug by adding small bricks on the chiniya and thi, is actually the center of this entire artwork. It is also timeless as a proof of human courage in the past. Sutlej is an ever-flowing river. Water used to flow at the feet of this cow. Digging a well at such a height and being close to a huge source of water, which is a symbol of man's self-reliance and courage, is also forcing us to think about the geographical situation of that time. Has there ever been an incident that the water of the river dried up in the summer season during a long drought? It may also have happened that a big landslide blocked the path of Sutlej.

This is a natural phenomenon of this region when the nascent and still young Himalayas and the northward shift of the southern plate change the course of the river. The area of research is very vast, but the governments of this region are neglecting this aspect and many of the activities being carried out today may affect this humanity in the near future.

Let's talk about fifty years back. Whenever we visited this well during our school days, we would hear the sound of a rod thrown in it to check its depth. At that time, water was seen in Patna and in the afternoon. There were no marks or any other evidence on the well as to how the water was drawn. The form of the painting is now somewhat modified and preserved. Our ancestors must have done this work using concrete bricks and wheels.

These bricks standing head to toe will continue to be a source of inspiration for the rest of the world. If man, who feared nature, fought nature, stood before it to control everything, is going to make a great sacrifice today, then looking back, all this has happened only because of his artistic skill. Great artists like Leonardo da Vinci said in the fifteenth century, “O reader, if you are pleased with my work, read me, because… the persistence to pursue it and invent such things… is found in very few people. It is through such studies that discoveries were made in nature.”

In the above context and as per the words of the great artist, this insignificant work of mine is also a work done under the auspices of self-reliance, artistry and courage of ancient man.

The purpose of creating an artwork

According to “Exploring Art” written by Jane Mitler and Rosalind Regans, any artwork that arouses curiosity to speak to the eyes is the real purpose of an artist in creating a work of art). The general definition of fine art is also “that which is art for art’s sake”. This phrase, spoken by the French philosopher Victor Cousin in 1817, is still valid today. Everything produced by machines and found in daily life is termed as applied art rather than fine art under this distinction. In the above context, this painting of mine is a creation of a current historical existence away from the flow of my thoughts on a fictional, old story. Only and only to make people understand and know the importance of that place in a beautiful and simple way.
