CA's funny jibe on Infosys founder: While filing his income tax returns, Basu, a chartered accountant from Bangalore, mocked Infosys founder Narayana Murthy's recent statement, which has drawn trolls from other CAs across the country. Murthy advised young professionals to work 70 hours a week to help build the nation.
Basu posted on X and poked fun at the sentiment of working more than 70 hours a week, mocking the advice as the income tax portal developed by Infosys continues to have problems, Narayana Murthy Sir, based on your advice we tax professionals working more than 70 hours a week has started working, now ask your Infosys team to work at least 1 hour on a weekly basis to properly manage the income tax portal. Many users have come in support of Basu's post. One user said that out of 70 hours, 30 hours are spent battling with IT support. He was so wise that he gave this advice to the country. But a true patriot is one who recognizes the strength of his developer team.
Many problems in income tax portal
Many other CAs also joined in supporting CA Basu's sentiments. There are problems in downloading Annual Information Statement (AIS) and Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS) while filing tax returns. While Infosys has not commented on the portal issues, Mayank Mohanka, Founder, Director and Partner, TaxAram India, said that there is a delay in filing tax returns this year. Problems like technical glitches, slow performance of AIS updates have been observed on the portal. CA firms across the country are facing difficulties in accessing the required tax information for their clients.
Ahmedabad-based CA Raju Shah said, “Many clients are facing difficulties in accessing AIS and TIS due to delays caused by tax-filing portal server functionality. The Finance Ministry and Infosys have not yet made any statement about the difficulty faced by taxpayers and CAs.
What was Narayan Murthy's statement?
Narayana Murthy made a statement that the youth of the country should work for 70 hours a week. Japan and Germany also did the same. This statement created a global controversy. He said, I used to reach the office at 6.20 am and leave the office at 8.30 pm and worked six days a week. I know that the country is prosperous today only because of hard work. In my professional career of more than 40 years, I worked 70 hours per week. Till 1994, I was working six days continuously, at least 85 to 90 hours a week.
