Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav: I have no hesitation in saying that this is India. And this country will run according to the wishes of the majority of people living here. This comment was made by Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of Allahabad High Court recently in a program of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). His statement has created an uproar. Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav arrived to participate in a program organized by the Legal Cell of Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Where he talked about the constitutional need for Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

If you beat animals in front of a child, how can he become tolerant?

Many lawyers and VHP workers were also present in the program. Addressing them, Justice Shekhar Kumar said, we teach children the qualities of tolerance and kindness from birth. Teach them to love animals and nature. When we see the suffering of others, we feel sad. But you don’t think so. Why? How will your child learn tolerance and kindness when you beat animals in front of them?

You cannot insult the culture and deities of the country.

On Hindu customs and respect for women, he said, ‘We don’t expect you to take seven rounds around the fire when you get married, we don’t expect you to take a dip in the Ganga, but we Expect this from you. You cannot insult the culture, gods and great leaders of the country. You cannot insult a woman who is considered a goddess in Hindu scriptures and Vedas.

No right can be claimed on four wives, Halala, triple talaq

Regarding UCC, Justice Shekhar Kumar said that you cannot claim the right to have four wives, Halala or triple talaq. Depriving women of maintenance and other types of injustice will not work. In the Shah Bano case, the Supreme Court also agreed that maintenance should be given to the victimized divorced Muslim woman. But the then central government had surrendered to some people. Not only RSS, VHP are advocating Uniform Civil Code (UCC) but the Supreme Court of the country also supports it.

No ill will towards other religions or faiths

Justice Shekhar Kumar further said that Hindu society has got rid of many evils including Sati and child marriage. There is nothing wrong in admitting mistakes and correcting them in time. Being a Hindu I respect my religion. But this does not mean that I have any ill will towards other religions or faiths.

However, he further said that what he said was not for any particular religion. “This applies to all of us,” he said. Every religion itself has to give up all wrong practices. If they do not do so, the country will apply the same laws to all its citizens.

Ram is appreciating the construction of the temple

He said that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will celebrate its centenary in 2025. He also pointed out how the Sangh Parivar and its wing VHP are working on issues important to the country. He also praised the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. He clarified that as a High Court judge, no one can ask me questions for saying these things. Because I am talking about the law. And the media can print whatever they want in this speech. Justice Dinesh Pathak was also present in this program. However, he inaugurated the program but did not give any speech there.
