Indian Army Major Radhika Sen has been honored by the United Nations. She has been awarded the 'UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year' award for 2023. Radhika has become the second Indian woman to receive this award. This honor is given to those who promote gender equality and women's empowerment in the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
Major Radhika Sen was deployed to MONUSCO (Congo) from March 2023 to April 2024. Here she was the Team Commander of the Indian Rapidly Deployment Battalion, leading a team of 20 women soldiers and 10 male soldiers. Her job was mainly to interact with people, solve their problems and raise the voice of women and children. Under her leadership, the team conducted educational sessions on topics such as women's health, education, child care, gender equality and employment.
With this award, Major Radhika Sen dedicated it to her team especially Major Soumya. She praised the Indian Army for trusting her with the opportunity to serve in Congo. Apart from this, she also thanked her parents.
