The country’s capital Delhi has once again narrowly escaped a major terrorist attack plot. In a major joint operation, the Special Cell of Delhi Police and central intelligence agencies have busted a module supported by Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and arrested 4 suspected terrorists. A large quantity of sophisticated weapons, ammunition and explosive materials have been recovered from these suspects. Initial investigation has revealed that these terrorists were planning to target many VVIP areas, crowded markets and important establishments of Delhi-NCR.
Big blasts were planned in the capital before festivals and important occasions.
Very shocking revelations are emerging during the interrogation of the arrested suspects. According to intelligence sources, on the instructions of the handlers sitting across the border, these terrorists were given the task of carrying out lone-wolf attack or serial bomb blasts in Delhi and its surrounding areas. The objective of ISI was to create an atmosphere of panic in the country’s capital and disturb communal harmony. Some sensitive maps and GPS locations were also recovered from the digital devices and mobile phones recovered from their possession, which they had shared with their handlers.
Big intelligence operation and precise raid of Delhi Police Special Cell
To destroy this entire network, the Special Cell of Delhi Police had laid a trap for several days. Based on technical surveillance and local input, the police conducted simultaneous raids late night at suspicious locations in the north-eastern and central districts of Delhi. Due to the alertness of the security forces, these suspects did not even get a chance to recover and they were caught red handed. The police have now taken these four accused on remand and are trying to trace their local helpers (sleeper cells) and their network spread in other parts of the country.
High alert in Delhi-NCR and strict security in local areas
After this major success, security arrangements have been tightened throughout Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Intensive checking campaign is being conducted especially at the borders, railway stations, bus stands and metro stations of Delhi. Delhi Police has also appealed to local citizens and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to immediately inform the police if they spot any suspicious person or abandoned object in their areas. Local intelligence units have also been fully activated so that any kind of danger can be averted in time.
