Clint Johnson, chairman of Alaska’s National Transportation Safety Board, said the plane that crashed was a twin-engine Cessna charter plane, the Associated Press (AP) reported. There were a total of 8 people on board this plane, which included two pilots and 6 passengers.
The charter plane was flying towards Cape Newenham, about 40 miles south of Goodnews Bay. The area is an Air Force airstrip, which provides access to a long-range radar station. When the plane was going towards its destination, it met with an accident on the way.
Search operation continues on war footing
Rescue teams were immediately activated as soon as information about the accident was received. Teams from NTSB, Alaska State Troopers and Rescue Coordination Center have immediately rushed to the accident site and search operations are being conducted on a war footing.
