Major action taken in the incident of Taliban torturing journalists by holding them hostage

Hamirpur, 06 November (HS). On Wednesday, the police took major action in Hamirpur district regarding the incident of two regional journalists being held hostage, beaten for three hours and made to drink urine. The Nagar Panchayat Chairman, who was absconding after the incident, has been arrested by the police from the border of the neighboring state. The police is conducting raids in search of other accused involved in the incident.

It is noteworthy that in Sarila town of Hamirpur district, regional journalists Amit Dwivedi and Shailendra Mishra were called to their home a week ago and taken hostage, stripped, beaten and tortured for three hours by the Taliban. The assailants even made the journalists drink urine. After several videos and audios of this incident went viral on social media, anger deepened among the Brahmin community and regional journalists. The report of the incident was written at Jaria police station against six named persons including Nagar Panchayat Sarila Chairman Pawan Raja Anuragi and two other unidentified persons. Regional journalists and All India Brahmin Samaj along with a large number of people demonstrated and staged a dharna in the Collectorate premises of the district headquarters. This matter reached Deputy CM Brijesh Pathak along with DGP and Human Rights Commission from where instructions were given for action. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had also taken a dig at the government by tweeting on social media. When the opposition attacked, Hamirpur police arrested four accused including RK Soni involved in the incident. Whereas police teams were raiding to search for the absconding chairman and other accused.

Accused chairman arrested after SP's protest

Yesterday, Samajwadi Party District President Idrish Khan, Pushpendra Yadav and many other workers had protested in Hamirpur over the incident of Taliban torturing regional journalists here. While raising slogans, a memorandum was given to the DM in the Collectorate demanding action against the accused involved in the incident. Today several police teams were raiding to arrest the accused chairman. Then, on the information of the informer, Chairman Pawan Raja Anuragi was arrested before the border of the neighboring state. ASP Manoj Gupta said this evening that the accused chairman named in the incident has been arrested. The remaining accused are also being searched.
