A big and sensational news is coming out from Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh, where a huge capsule tanker going to Nepal carrying huge quantity of cooking gas (LPG) from Mathura Refinery went out of control and overturned in a field on the roadside. After this horrific accident, the main valve of the tanker was badly damaged, due to which dangerous gas started leaking continuously and created an atmosphere of great chaos in the surrounding area. Seeing the seriousness of the incident, the local police administration and fire department teams immediately came into action and as a precautionary measure, all types of vehicle traffic was completely stopped within a radius of about one kilometer around the accident site. This incident of gas leakage has once again raised serious questions on the safety precautions taken and negligence of drivers while transporting dangerous chemicals and inflammable substances on the highway, because even a small mistake could have resulted in a major carnage.
According to eyewitnesses and detailed information received from the police department, this entire accident came to light in the early hours of Tuesday morning when this capsule tanker left for Nepal on Monday night after filling about 18 tons of LPG gas from Mathura Refinery. It is being told that when this tanker was passing near Himayunpur village on Shikohabad-Mainpuri road under Dannahar police station area of Mainpuri district, the driver suddenly fell into a deep sleep. Due to drowsiness, the driver completely lost control of the heavy vehicle and the speeding tanker went out of control, crossing the roadside tracks and overturned in the field. Fatigue of drivers due to long night driving and continuous traveling often becomes the reason for such accidents, and in this case too, a moment’s laxity of the driver could have proved fatal for hundreds of people. It was fortunate that no other big vehicle hit the tanker immediately after it overturned, otherwise the consequences could have been even more dire.
As soon as the information about the overturning of the tanker and leakage of gas was received by the local villagers, panic spread in the entire area and people came out of their homes. Immediately this information was given to the police station and the fire department, after which there was panic among the administrative staff and police forces and fire tenders immediately reached the spot. Due to the gas being highly inflammable, there was a huge danger of fire, sensing which the police officers immediately showed wisdom and stopped the traffic on the main road from both sides and completely sealed the radius of one kilometer. Fire fighters took up positions to reduce the effect of the gas and prevent any possible sparks from spreading by continuously spraying water. The technical experts of the refinery were also immediately informed about the incident so that the damaged valve could be closed safely and the tanker could be taken out with the help of a crane to avoid major danger.
