Major accident in Srinagar, boat capsized in Jhelum river, 4 people died, many missing

A major accident took place in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. A boat capsized in Jhelum river. There were about 12 people in this boat, including school children, their number is not clear. 4 people have died in the accident, while 7 people have been rescued.

According to the information, this boat transports people from Ganderbal daily. The boat that capsized today had school children, their parents and staff on board. These people used to cross the Jhelum river in a similar boat every day. Due to heavy rain in the last few hours, the water level of Jhelum has increased. Due to which the boat overturned.

Boat capsized in Jhelum

Local sailors started rescue operations immediately after the accident. After some time, police and SDRF team also got involved in rescue. Out of the 7 rescued people, 3 are undergoing treatment. The deceased include Shabbir Ahmed (26), Gulzar Ahmed (41), 32 and two Mahal, 18.

It is being told that the weather is bad in Kashmir Valley. Due to heavy rains during the last 48 hours, Jhelum river is flowing near the danger mark. A hailstorm alert has also been issued in the state. Let us tell you that the weather has remained bad in Jammu and Kashmir for the last several days. There is a possibility of rain and hailstorm in various parts of the state till April 18.
