Heartbreaking news has come out from Georgia. Bodies of 12 people were found here from the second floor of an Indian restaurant. Among the dead are 11 foreigners and one Georgian citizen. According to reports, the bodies of the deceased were found in the room of the restaurant where the employees slept. Among the dead, 11 people are said to be Punjabi. Restaurant employees are also among the dead.
A press release issued by the Indian Embassy said that the Indian Embassy is saddened to learn about the unfortunate death of eleven Indian nationals in Georgia and extends its deepest condolences to their families. The embassy is working with local authorities to facilitate immediate repatriation of the bodies to India. We are also in touch with the bereaved families and are committed to providing all possible assistance.
The cause of the deaths in the restaurant is not yet known. However, preliminary investigation suggests that the cause of death was the use of a generator in a closed room due to lack of lighting. The Georgia Department of the Interior is still working with forensic experts to determine the exact circumstances that led to the deaths.
The forensic team reached the spot and took samples and sent them for investigation. Police are questioning eyewitnesses to the incident, forensic medical reports are being studied and the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death. Initial investigation indicated respiratory distress due to exposure to carbon monoxide due to use of the generator in the small room.
