Major accident in Brazil, passenger plane crashes, 62 people killed

A plane crashed in Brazil, killing all 62 people on board. It was a turboprop plane that crashed near Sao Paulo, Brazil on Friday. According to local authorities near the accident site, all the people on board the plane died. A video of this accident has also been shared on social media, which shows the severity of the accident. The plane went out of control in the sky and started spinning in circles and in this condition the plane fell to the ground.

According to Reuters, video of the crash showed the ATR plane going out of control and crashing into a grove of trees near homes, followed by a plume of black smoke. Officials in the town of Valinhos, near Vinhedo, said there were no survivors and only one home in a local condominium complex was damaged, while no residents were injured.

Speaking at an event shortly after the crash, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva also called for a minute of silence for the victims of the crash. Airline Voypas said the plane took off from Cascavel in Parana state headed to Sao Paulo's main international airport. The plane crashed in the city of Vinhedo, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of Sao Paulo.

The unlisted airline said it could not provide further details about why the plane, with registration PS-VPB, crashed. Minutes after the crash, Sao Paulo's state fire department said it was sending seven crews to the scene. The plane was listed by flight tracker FlightRadar24 as an ATR 72-500 turboprop. ATR is jointly owned by Airbus and Italian aerospace group Leonardo. ATR did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
