Major accident at Mumbai airport, two planes narrowly escape collision on the runway

Mumbai: A major accident took place at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport on Saturday. Two planes landed on the runway at the same time. One plane was taking off while the other was landing. Both the planes had come close to each other and if there was a lapse of even a moment, there was a possibility that both the planes would have collided. The DGC has relieved the concerned air traffic controllers from duty and has ordered an inquiry into the entire incident.

As the landing plane was touching the tarmac of the runway, another plane took off very close to the same runway. The heartbreaking video of the entire incident has also gone viral on social media.

According to the information received in this regard, at 6 am on Saturday, Indigo Airlines flight 6E-6053 was landing on runway 27 of Mumbai airport from Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore. At this time, Air-Indigo flight 657 was flying from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram. Indigo's plane started landing on runway 27 even before Air India's plane took off.

Both these planes came near the runway at the same time. However, in the meantime the Air-India flight took off and flew into the sky. And immediately after that the Indigo flight is seen landing at that place. If there was a delay of even a few moments, both the flights could have collided and a terrible accident could have happened, but fortunately nothing like that happened.

In this regard, IndiGo said in an official statement that IndiGo flight 6E-6053 had received ATC permission to land at Mumbai airport. The commanding pilot of the aircraft followed the instructions of ATC and made the approach and landing. At IndiGo, the safety of passengers is of paramount importance to us and we have reported the incident as per procedures.
