Varanasi, 07 September (HS). On Saturday, the boatmen community expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister of the state Yogi Adityanath for the resumption of boat operations which were closed for about a month due to the rise in the water level of the Ganga river. The boatmen gathered at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Ghat under the banner of Maa Ganga Nishad Raj Seva Samiti held a marathon meeting and discussed the problems of the society and livelihood.
The boatmen said that we had sent a letter on September 4 to the Chief Minister of the state informing him about our livelihood problems. After this, the Majhi community got permission to operate boats.
Let us tell you that after a month, seeing the decrease in the water level of Ganga and slow speed of flow, boat operation started again from last Friday evening. On the first day, big boats with a capacity of 50 passengers were allowed. Currently, the rate of decrease in Ganga is 2 cm per hour. According to the water police in-charge, except for the paddle boats, all other boats started running from Saturday. Lavkush Majhi, Television Sahni, Ramkishan Majhi, Jitendra Sahni, Prakash Sahni, Golu Sahni, etc. were present in the meeting.
