Kolkata, July 19 (HS). Maitree Express and Bandhan Express going from India to Bangladesh have been cancelled due to the ongoing student agitation in Bangladesh demanding quota reform in government jobs. Railway service has been closed in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka since Thursday afternoon and the situation has not returned to normal even on Friday.
No trains are entering or leaving Dhaka. Due to the agitation, life in Dhaka and other cities has been affected. The administration has taken strict measures to stop the agitators.
According to Indian Railways, the Maitree Express from Dhaka will not run on Friday and the Maitree Express from Kolkata to Dhaka on Saturday has also been cancelled. Apart from this, the Kolkata-Khulna and Khulna-Kolkata Bandhan Express have also been cancelled on Sunday.
Several people have died and hundreds have been injured in the violence between the protesters and the police. The administration has decided to stop trains in Dhaka so that the protesters do not take advantage of the rail services. When the situation becomes normal, the trains will be resumed.
