Amethi, 05 October (HS). The police has revealed on Friday night the murder of a teacher, his wife and two daughters in Shivratanganj police station area in the district late on Thursday evening. Gautam Budh Nagar unit of UP STF arrested Chandan Verma, accused absconding in the murder, near Jewar Toll Plaza.
Superintendent of Police Anoop Singh told journalists that Chandan Verma, who was absconding after shooting dead teacher Sunil, his wife Poonam and two girls in Shivratan police station area, was caught.
During interrogation, preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was having an affair with the deceased Poonam for the last one and a half years. There was a rift between the two for the last few days. He was under stress regarding this, due to which he committed the crime. The weapon used will be recovered.
The accused admitted that he had used the bullet to reach the spot of incident. He had chosen the time of the incident when people were performing puja in temples or homes. The sound of the bullet should be drowned by the loud sound of the temple bells.
He told the police that he was so angry that he kept firing at whoever came in front of him. He has fired a total of ten bullets. Seven bullets have been recovered from the bodies of the deceased. He also shot himself with a bullet, but it missed, after which he lost the courage. He ran away after the incident. The post-mortem report has also revealed that the bullets found in the bodies of the deceased were fired from the same pistol. The accused first went to Prayagraj and then reached Jewar and from here he was planning to escape to Delhi, when he was caught by STF.
SP said that the credit for catching the accused goes to the STF team. Police are taking further action by registering a case based on the complaint of the deceased's father.
