Several tribal MLAs of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP and Assembly Deputy Speaker Narhari Jirwal jumped from the third floor of 'Mantralaya Bhawan', the administrative headquarters of the Maharashtra government in Mumbai on Friday. Fortunately, everyone got caught in the safety net of the building and were saved from falling to the floor below and a major accident was averted. This incident was captured on camera and is now going viral on social media.
These MLAs of Ajit Pawar demand that Dhangars should not be given quota in tribal reservation and separate reservation should be arranged for them. Tribal MLAs of Maharashtra are continuously agitating on this issue. During the cabinet meeting, tribal MLAs of Ajit Pawar faction protested by jumping from the security net from the third floor of the Mantralaya building. Along with him, Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal also jumped into the security circle.
Narahari Zirwal along with some tribal MLAs met Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at Sahyadri Guest House on Wednesday and demanded that no other caste should be included in the tribal reservation. However, he had to wait for 7 hours to meet the Chief Minister. The tribal MLAs were angry that even after waiting for a long time, they could not meet the Chief Minister, due to which some MLAs had to create a ruckus in the ministry itself. This incident happened during the ongoing meeting of Maharashtra Cabinet.
Know what is the controversy?
Dhangars live in western Maharashtra and Marathwada region and come from the pastoral community. This community is demanding inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. The community says they have been denied the quota as there is no mention of 'Dhannagar' in the Centre's database, rather 'Dhangarh' is identified as part of the ST category. Dhangars are currently in the list of nomadic castes.
In early September, Madhavbhai Gade, head of Yashwant Sena, an organization representing the community, said, 'If the Chief Minister does not have time to listen to Dhangar reservation and our other demands, then we do not need him. ' Earlier on September 30, hundreds of tribals had protested in Gondia town and alleged that the Maharashtra government was trying to include the town in the ST category.
