Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Five phases of voting have been completed for the Lok Sabha elections. Votes for 428 seats are locked in EVMs. The results will be declared on June 4. But the analysis of this poll has already begun.
According to a press report, 258 out of 409 seats have seen a drop in polling compared to 2019. Also, one in every five of the 88 seats has seen a decrease in the total number of votes compared to five years ago.
Decrease in voting percentage in every state
It is not that the voting percentage has decreased only in two-three seats in some states, but the voting percentage has decreased in every state. Voting declined in all 20 seats of Kerala and 12 of them recorded fewer votes in EVN than in 2019. Also, in Uttarakhand, voting was less this time in all five seats.
State | Voting for the seat | Seats with lowest vote percentage | Seat with least votes |

Uttarakhand | 5 | 5 | 3 |
Rajasthan | 25 | 22 | 12 |
Tamil Nadu | 39 | 34 | 18 |
Uttar Pradesh | 53 | 40 | 17 |
Madhya Pradesh | 29 | 23 | 9 |

A different trend in Hindi speaking states
The situation is the same in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. There has been a decline in the absolute voting percentage in almost half of the seats there and low voting has been recorded in about 90 percent of the seats in these states.
UP and Madhya Pradesh also saw lower voter turnout in three-fourths of the seats, but only one-third of the seats in these Hindi heartland states saw lower voter turnout than in 2019.
Voters of Gujarat and Maharashtra are far behind
In Gujarat, voting was less in 25 percent of the seats as compared to 2019. In Bihar, voting was less in 21 out of 24 seats as compared to 2019. In Maharashtra, voting was less in 20 out of 48 seats.
But only six seats saw fewer people turn out to vote on polling day. Of the 409 seats being analysed across the country, five of the six seats with fewer voters than in 2019 were from Maharashtra, including Pune and South Mumbai.
Chhattisgarh is the only major state with a high voting percentage
This time, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Odisha, Telangana and West Bengal have no seats with fewer votes than in 2019. However, some of them recorded lower polling.
Chhattisgarh was the only major state where both the polling percentage and absolute vote count per seat were high. Although the Election Commission has not provided data on the exact number of votes cast in each seat, it has provided the addresses of voters and the polling percentage.
