In Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, election officials walked 107 km on dangerous forest paths to enable two elderly people to vote at home in the Lok Sabha elections. The age of both the voters is 100 and 86 years. The first phase of voting in Gadchiroli-Chimur constituency is to be held on April 19.
According to the District Information Officer of Gadchiroli, the Election Commission has given permission to the elderly above 80 years of age and persons with more than 40 percent disability to sit and vote for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The election official traveled 100 km from Aheri to Sironcha for that purpose and reached 100-year-old Kistaiya Madarboina and 86-year-old Kistaiya Komero. The official said that both the elders wanted to vote, but could not participate in the election process due to lack of facilities. Now they can vote sitting at home. Officials said that in Gadchiroli polling area, 1,037 voters above 85 years of age and 338 disabled voters have been allowed to sit and vote. Voting will be held in Maharashtra in five phases from April 19.
A temporary polling booth will be set up for one voter in Arunachal Pradesh.
Apart from Maharashtra, before the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Arunachal too, election officials will travel a distance of 39 km to reach 44 year old Sokela Tayang. Tayang is the only voter of that village. A temporary polling center will be set up for them in a village near the Chinese border. The number of families in Malegam is very less. Except Tayang, the rest of the villagers are registered as voters at other centres. Taiyang is not ready to shift to another polling station.
