In accordance with the ideals and values of Mahant ji regarding religion, spirituality, nation and society, in one hour there is a shower of nectar of Shrimad Bhagwat Katha which reveals the secrets of life, while in another hour, subject experts are brainstorming on the topics affecting the society and the nation and making the subject relevant to the times.

On this occasion of bringing alive the memories of the late Mahant Digvijaynath in the death anniversary celebrations, it is also relevant to know why he is called the man of the era. Mahant ji was not only the architect of the present form of Gorakhnath temple, but his entire life was dedicated to public welfare through nation, religion, spirituality, culture, education and social service. From his youth, he took active part in the freedom struggle of the country and after the independence of the country, for social unity and upliftment. For this, his greatest emphasis was on educational awakening.

Mahant Digvijaynath was born in 1894 on the day of Vaishakh Purnima in Chittor, Mewar Thikana Kakarhawan (Rajasthan). His childhood name was Nanhu Singh. At the age of five, in 1899, he came to Nathpeeth in Gorakhpur. The influence of the soil of his birthplace Mewar was such that since childhood, he was filled with strong willpower and the tendency of not compromising with self-respect. He was educated in Gorakhpur itself and he also had a deep love for sports. On 15 August 1933, he was initiated into yoga at Gorakhnath temple and on 15 August 1935, he became the Peethadheeshwar of this Peeth. He took part in the freedom struggle from the youth of his life. He had such a passion to see the country independent that he left school in 1920 in support of the non-cooperation movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi. He was constantly accused of giving protection and support to the revolutionaries. His name also came up in the Chauri Chaura incident of 1922, but the British government had to bow before his intelligence and he was released.

Brahmaleen Mahant Shri is the foundation stone of Shri Ram Mandir movement

Everyone is aware of the important role of Gorakshapeeth in the movements for the construction of Lord Shri Ram's temple in Ayodhya. Late Mahant Digvijaynath is the foundation stone of this movement. From 1934 to 1949, he not only gave new heights to the movement by running continuous campaigns, but in 1949, he was also the leader of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mukti Andolan. On 22-23 December 1949, nine days before the appearance of Lord Ramlala's idol in Ayodhya, the recitation of Akhand Ramayan was started under the leadership of Mahant Digvijay Nath. Mahant ji himself was present there at the time of Ramlala's appearance. After a wait of five hundred years, Lord Shri Ram has been seated in the temple located at his birthplace in Ayodhya. After him, his disciple Mahant Avedyanath made the movement for the construction of Lord Ramlala's temple decisive, and after the court's decision, the auspicious moment for the construction of the temple came when the state's power is also being led by Gorakshapeeth's Peethadheeswar Yogi Adityanath. In such a situation, whenever there will be a mention of Shri Ram temple of Ayodhya, then the grandfather of the present Gorakshapeethadhipati, Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath, will be remembered.

Purvanchal is being illuminated by the light of education

The light of education that Mahant Digvijaynath lit for Gorakhpur and the surrounding areas is illuminating the entire region today. For the education revolution, he established Maharana Pratap Education Council in 1932. Maharana Pratap Kshatriya School was started under the council in a rented house. In 1935, it got the recognition of Junior High School and in 1936, High School education also started. It was named 'Maharana Pratap High School'. Meanwhile, with the efforts of Mahant Digvijaynath, Maharana Pratap Education Council got five acres of land in Civil Lines, Gorakhpur and the centre of Maharana Pratap High School became Civil Lines and at the time of independence of the country, this school was established as Maharana Pratap Intermediate College. In 1949-50, Maharana Pratap Degree College was established in the same campus under the leadership of Mahantji. His thinking about education was farsighted and beyond personal interest. This was the reason that in 1958 he donated his institution Maharana Pratap Degree College for the establishment of Gorakhpur University. Later, the council established Digvijaynath Postgraduate College in his memory. Currently, about four dozen educational institutions are being run by Maharana Pratap Education Council in Gorakhpur area. These include projects from primary education to university, medical education and technology education.

Politics was also considered as an aim of public welfare

Mahant Digvijaynath made the tradition of public welfare of Gorakshpeeth his goal in politics as well. He formally started his political life by joining Hindu Mahasabha in 1937. Mahant ji organized the historic provincial convention of Hindu Mahasabha in Gorakhpur in 1944. Being a politician of Mahasabha, he was arrested in 1948 on the false accusation of Mahatma Gandhi's murder, but the government had to acquit him with honor after ten months in 1949. In the interest of the nation, he wisely ended Master Tara Singh's hunger strike for a separate Punjabi state in 1956. He was elected as the National President (as Hindu President) of All India Hindu Mahasabha in 1961. His contribution in the field of religion and social unity is also incomparable. He is also remembered for establishing All India Avdhoot Bhesh Barhapanth Yogi Mahasabha in 1939 and uniting the saint community of the entire country for public welfare and national interest. Presiding over the All India Shaddarshan Sabha Conference in Haridwar in 1960, organizing the All India Hindu Conference in Delhi in 1961 and organizing the All World Hindu Conference in Delhi in 1965 are also among his notable achievements. Mahant Shri, who was elected MP from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency in 1967, passed away in 1969 but the immortality of his personality and deeds remains forever.
