Maha Shivratri 2024: Maha Shivratri has special significance in Hindu religion. This festival dedicated to Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati is celebrated on the Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of Phagan month. On this day, Lord Bholanath and Mother Parvati are formally married.
Apart from this, there is also a tradition of worshiping Lord Shiva and doing his Abhishek and Rudrabhishek on this day. In such a situation, what is the auspicious time to worship Lord Shiva on Mahashivratri? Four Prahar Muhurat are being formed on Mahashivratri 2024.
According to the Hindu calendar, Mahashivratri will start on March 8, on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phagan month, at 9:57 pm and will end on March 9 at 6:17 pm. Lord Shiva is worshiped during Pradosh period, hence it is not necessary to observe Udaya Tithi.
This year Mahashivratri fast will be observed on 8 March 2024, there are four Prahar Muhurat for worshiping Lord Shiva.
- The first night Prahar Muhurta will be from 6:25 pm to 9:28 pm.
- The time of worship of second prahar will be from 9:28 pm to 12:31 am.
- Tritiya Prahar puja is from 12:31 pm to 3:34 pm.
- The fourth and last Prahar puja will be from 3:34 am to 6:37 am.
Do Mahashivratri puja like this – Brahma Muhurta time for Mahashivratri puja is from 5:15 am to 6:06 am. At this time, wake up, take bath etc. and remember Lord Bholenath and resolve to fast.
After this, Abhijeet Muhurta will be from 12:13 pm to 12:58 pm. During this time you can anoint Lord Bholenath. It is said that on this day Lord Bholenath should be bathed with Panchamrit and eight pitchers of water containing saffron should also be offered to him.
A lamp should be lit in front of Lord Shiva the whole night and sandalwood tilak, belpatra, hemp and datura should be offered to Lord Bholenath. On the occasion of Shivratri, saffron kheer is offered to Lord Bholenath.
