Lucknow: Demolition work has finally started on the building where the tragic accident took place in Aliganj, Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The work of demolition of this disputed multi-storey building built on plot number-102 located in Sector-D was started from Monday. On June 22 this year, 15 innocent children were burnt to death in a massive fire that broke out in this building. The owners of the building, Virendra Shukla and Surendra Shukla, who came on the back foot after this heart-wrenching accident, have themselves started the process of demolishing the building. However, the special team of Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is maintaining a moment-by-moment monitoring of the entire demolition process.

The building is being slowly demolished with drill machines: The entire building covered with green net for safety.

Being located in a densely populated area, this building is being demolished in a very controlled and careful manner instead of being demolished in one go. Keeping in mind the safety of the surrounding buildings and local residents, the entire building has been covered with a green colored net. The workers and technical team are slowly breaking the upper part into small pieces with the help of drill machines, so that no debris falls down and does not damage the neighboring structures.

Local residents say that the building owners are carrying out the work with utmost caution to avoid any new accident. However, there is also a strong discussion in the area that the owner and his legal advisors are trying to save some part of the building through legal maneuvers or exploring the possibilities of compounding. This is the reason why the action is being taken forward slowly, so that some legal scope can be created.

LDA engineers deployed on the spot: Strict checking of safety standards

As soon as the information about the commencement of demolition work was received, LDA Vice President Prathamesh Kumar immediately sent Zonal Officer Madhavesh Kumar along with his team to the spot. Engineers and officials of the authority are present on the spot to ensure that all the prescribed safety standards are completely followed during the demolition of the building. Officials believe that if the building is demolished in an unsafe manner without a solid safety plan, it could cause major damage to nearby buildings.

Extension till 25th July: LDA’s bulldozer may roar as soon as the deadline ends

According to zonal officer Madhavesh Kumar, the building owner is currently getting the building demolished himself. As per rules, Lucknow Development Authority had given 15 days’ notice time for demolition of the building, the deadline of which is ending on July 25. The officials have made it clear that if the entire building is not removed by the stipulated date, then after July 25, the authority itself will complete the demolition process with its heavy bulldozers and machines. This building has been the center of controversy across the state since the horrific accident on June 22, and now its crumbling walls are a reminder of that horrific tragedy.
