Mohali, September 18 (HS). Punjab FC forward Luca Majcen will be out of the Indian Super League for almost two months due to an injury. He suffered this injury during the season opener against Kerala Blasters in Kochi on Sunday.

The Slovenian player has suffered two fractures in his jaw and will undergo surgery in the coming days. After the surgery, he will remain under the supervision of the medical team. His return time is estimated to be 6-8 weeks, depending on his medical condition and the approval of the medical team.

Director of Football Nikolaos Topoliatis said, “It is unfortunate that we will not be able to avail of Luca's services in the upcoming matches. It was an unwarranted aggressive foul by a Kerala Blasters player that led to Luca's injury. As a club, we do not support such an aggressive nature of play which does not lead to any positive results. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he joins the team again as soon as possible.”

Luka scored the team's first goal from a penalty in the match against Kerala Blasters and also assisted on Filip Mrzljak's winning goal as Punjab FC started their ISL campaign with a win. Punjab will now play their next match against Odisha FC on Friday, September 20 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
