An important and big update has come out for crores of domestic LPG gas consumers of the country. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has issued official instructions and made it clear that from October 1, 2026, only those consumers will be given domestic gas cylinders at the government subsidy and regulated retail selling price, who have purchased their Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA/e-KYC) Have completed.
According to the ministry, if a consumer does not get Aadhaar biometric e-KYC of his LPG connection done within the prescribed time limit, his connection will not be closed, but he will have to buy 14.2 kg domestic cylinder directly at the market rate (without any government subsidy). This strict step of the government has been taken with the aim of directly reaching the right beneficiaries of the subsidy and completely eliminating the misuse of domestic gas.
According to government data, as of September 19, 2026, more than 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers in the country (about 89.9% of the total consumer base) have successfully completed the process of biometric Aadhaar authentication.
If you are among those consumers who have already completed the e-KYC process through their gas agency or deliveryman, then you do not need to repeat the process again. Your refill booking will continue at normal subsidized rates as before. This new order is mainly a warning to the remaining 10% consumers who have not yet done the biometric verification even after extending the deadline several times.
Petroleum companies—Indian Oil (Indane), Bharatgas and Hindustan Petroleum (HP Gas)—have provided three very simple and accessible means of completing biometric e-KYC for the convenience of consumers:
1. Get verification done at home at the time of delivery (During Cylinder Delivery)
Whenever the gas cylinder comes to be delivered to your home, you can directly ask the delivery person to do biometric verification. The delivery personnel have access to the official mobile application of the Oil Marketing Company and biometric/face authentication tool. They will complete the e-KYC process in 2 minutes by entering your Aadhaar number on the spot and through fingerprint or face scan.
2. By visiting the showroom of your gas distributor agency (At Distributor Showroom)
If you don’t want to wait for delivery, you can directly visit your nearest gas distributor’s office or showroom. Take the gas passbook/consumer number and Aadhar card with you there. The counter staff present at the agency will instantly verify and update your e-KYC through the biometric machine.
3. Do e-KYC yourself sitting at home using your smartphone (Self e-KYC via Mobile App)

Along with this, keep UIDAI’s Aadhaar FaceRD app in your mobile. After logging into the respective gas app, go to the profile/e-KYC section, enter your Aadhaar number and submit your self e-KYC within a few minutes by getting your face scanned in front of the camera.
The burden of subsidy given on domestic LPG cylinders remains heavy on the government exchequer and oil marketing companies (OMCs). According to government data, in September 2026, 14.2 kg domestic cylinder is getting an implicit subsidy of about ₹ 210 per cylinder, which had reached ₹ 721 per cylinder in the month of June.
The accumulated losses (under-recoveries) of public sector oil companies on domestic LPG have crossed the figure of ₹62,000 crore by August 31, 2026. In such a situation, the main objective of the government is:

Identifying and canceling fake or duplicate gas connections running in the name of the same person.

To prevent subsidized cheap domestic cylinders from being diverted for commercial use (hotels, dhabas, restaurants or welding).

To ensure 100% delivery of government subsidy benefits to genuine and economically weaker families.
If a consumer is unable to get the biometric Aadhaar authentication done or does not want to get it done, the government has clarified that his gas connection will not be permanently disconnected. Such consumers will have to go to their company’s digital platforms (web portal, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS) and select the non-subsidized option.
After this, 5 kg or 10 kg (composite) cylinders will be supplied to those consumers depending on local availability at market price (Non-subsidised Market Price), but they will not get any benefit of regular subsidy on 14.2 kg domestic cylinder.
Earlier, the last date for biometric verification was fixed as June 30, which was later extended to September 14 in a phased manner for public convenience. Now the ministry has made it clear that this system will become fully effective from October 1, 2026.
